Essential April 2026 Tax Deadlines for Businesses

April brings a heavy wave of tax deadlines for business owners and fiduciaries. Staying ahead of these dates ensures you avoid unnecessary penalties and keep your financial house in order. Below is a breakdown of the critical filing and deposit requirements for this month.

Key Deadlines for April 15, 2026

  • C-Corporations (Form 1120): File your 2025 calendar-year income tax return and pay any tax due. If you need more time, submit Form 7004 to request an automatic six-month extension. Remember, an extension to file is not an extension to pay. You must estimate and deposit your owed taxes to avoid late payment penalties.
  • 2026 Estimated Taxes: The first installment for your 2026 calendar-year corporate estimated tax is due.
  • Fiduciary Returns (Form 1041): This is the last day to file a 2025 calendar-year return for estates and trusts or request an extension.
  • Monthly Payroll & Non-Payroll Withholding: Deposit Social Security, Medicare, and withheld income taxes for March payments if your business follows the monthly deposit rule.

April 30, 2026: Quarterly Payroll Taxes

  • Form 941: File your first-quarter 2026 return and pay any undeposited tax. If your liability is under $2,500, you may pay it in full with your timely return. If you made all deposits on time, your filing deadline is extended to May 11.
  • Federal Unemployment Tax (FUTA): Deposit your tax owed through March if the total exceeds $500.

Weekends, Holidays, and Disaster Areas

When a due date lands on a weekend or legal holiday, the deadline automatically shifts to the next business day. Additionally, the IRS grants automatic extensions for taxpayers in designated disaster areas. Check the following resources to see if your region qualifies:
