Essential January 2026 Tax Deadlines for Businesses

As the new year unfolds, January 2026 is packed with critical tax deadlines vital for businesses, employers, farmers, and fishermen. Strategize early to stay compliant and avoid penalties.

January 15 - Employer’s Monthly Deposit Due

For employers adhering to monthly deposit guidelines, January 15 is crucial for submitting Social Security, Medicare, and withheld income taxes for December 2025. Nonpayroll withholding deposits for December are also due if monthly rules apply. Ensure these employment tax deposits are made electronically unless your deposit liability is below $2,500 for the return period, in which case quarterly or annual remittance with the return is permissible.

January 15 - Farmers and Fishermen

Submit your 2025 estimated tax using Form 1040-ES by this date. Although you have until April 15 to file your 2025 tax return (Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR), missing the estimated tax payment by January 15 means you must file your 2025 return and settle taxes by March 2, 2026, to avoid penalties.
