Key Tax Deadlines in August 2025: Stay Compliant

August 2025 is a critical month for tax deadlines, particularly for those reporting July tips. It’s also important to be aware of potential disaster extensions and holiday adjustments. Make sure you don’t overlook these deadlines as penalties can be costly.

August 11 - Tip Reporting Obligation

Employees who earn tips exceeding $20 in July are required to report these tips to their employer using IRS Form 4070 by no later than August 11. Employers will withhold FICA and income taxes based on these reported tips. If your regular wages fall short of covering the necessary withholdings, your employer will indicate the uncollected amount in box 8 of your W-2 form, which you are obligated to settle when filing your annual tax return.

Weekend and Holiday Adjustments

If a tax filing deadline falls on a weekend or a public holiday, the due date will be shifted to the next business day.

Extensions in Disaster Zones
